Training from the BACK of the Room comes to Anchorpoint

Over the last week, our training manager, Katja Hurt, has been braving the sweltering east coast temperatures to bring Training From the BACK of the Room to Anchorpoint Response and the Pacific Northwest.

Training from the BACK of the Room, or TBR for short, is a highly respected instructor-trainer program. Developed by professional speaker, author, and trainer Sharon Bowman, TBR is a globally-acclaimed, interactive, skills-building train-the-trainer class. TBR is based on decades of neuroscience research and best-practices on how adults learn and is packed full of tools for bringing learner-centered, brain-based instruction to the classroom.

In addition to receiving this top-notch training, Katja had the opportunity to add an extra day to the training to become a TBR Certified Trainer. “I’ve been waitlisted for two years to get into the trainer program. I am so excited to finally attend Sharon’s amazing course and to be able to bring it back to share with others,” Katja said.

The official website lists TBR trainers from around the world. The closest ones to Katja’s home-region in the Pacific Northwest have been California and Colorado.

Katja Hurt proudly displays her new certificates.

“When I realized there was no local trainer in Washington or any of the adjoining states, I knew I wanted to put in the extra effort to become that provider,” Katja explained. She had opportunities to attend the TBR course during the time she was waitlisted, but she says that the drive to take the next step and get certified as a trainer kept her waiting until the right opportunity arose.

“When I found out there was a spot available for me in the Washington D.C. class, I knew I would find a way to be there.”

When asked about her favorite part of the training, Katja said it was a tie. Meeting other professional trainers from around the world was a big highlight for her. The other part?

“TBR encourages you to use lots of colors and to make things different. So for my presentation, I went all-out making a colorful poster. It’s been years since I’ve spent that much time coloring with markers,” Katja laughed.

The result was an attention-grabbing visual aid for her short teach-back presentation to the class. The presentation was the final requirement for her TBR trainer certification and another highlight of the course.

Training from the BACK of the Room is now listed under Solutions – Instructor Development. Information on publicly offered classes will be shared as they become available. In-house options for your organization are also available at a significantly discounted rate.
